# CCAT (Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test)

The CCAT, the Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test, has 50 questions and a 15-minute limit. The questions are verbal, math and logic, and spatial reasoning, and calculators aren’t allowed. Criteria says fewer than 1% of people answer all 50 and the average test taker gets 24 right. There’s no penalty for wrong answers, so it pays to answer every question you reach.

## What is on the CCAT?

Criteria groups the CCAT’s questions into three types. Verbal questions test word meanings and relationships, such as opposites. Math and logic questions cover basic algebra, proportions and word problems, and Criteria says none need a calculator. Spatial reasoning questions ask you to rotate or flip images in your head and find patterns and outliers. The questions come from a bank of thousands.

## What will CCAT practice include?

Practice Round is building timed 50-question, 15-minute CCAT-style rounds that mix verbal, math and logic, and spatial questions the way the test does, written by us, with an explanation for every answer and your raw score after each round.

## What will a CCAT practice round look like?

### We’re writing a sample round

A short sample round, with every answer explained, will appear here before practice opens.

## How is the CCAT scored?

Your raw score is the number you got right out of 50, and Criteria also reports a percentile that compares you with a large group of other test takers. Employers set score ranges for each job. Because wrong answers cost nothing, an unanswered question is always worth less than a guess.

## How fast do you need to work?

Fifteen minutes for 50 questions is 18 seconds a question, and almost nobody finishes. The skill to practice is moving on: spend your time on the questions you can answer, and guess on the rest before time runs out.

## How do you take the CCAT?

You get an invitation link from the employer. Criteria says its tests work on phones and tablets, and you’ll be told in advance if one doesn’t; it recommends Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari. If you’re interrupted, you can usually return with your Event ID and pick up where you left off. Expired links are extended by the employer, not Criteria.

## How can you practice for the CCAT?

Criteria offers short mini practice tests and lists its aptitude practice test as similar to the CCAT, while saying they don’t reflect the full difficulty. After that, practice full 50-question rounds on a 15-minute clock so the pace stops feeling rushed, and review which question type slows you down most.

## Which other Criteria tests might you get?

Criteria publishes many other tests, from the 20-minute UCAT to personality and game-based assessments. The [Criteria assessments guide](https://practiceround.app/criteria-assessments) lists them with their lengths.

## Common questions about the CCAT

### How many questions are on the CCAT, and how long is it?

The CCAT has 50 questions and a 15-minute limit. The instructions aren’t timed, so you can read them as long as you need before you start.

### What is a good CCAT score?

Criteria says the average test taker gets 24 of 50 right, and employers set their own score ranges for each job. Your report shows a raw score and a percentile compared with other test takers.

### Can you use a calculator on the CCAT?

No. Criteria says calculators aren’t allowed, and that none of the math questions need one.

### Do you get your CCAT results?

No. Criteria emails results to the company you applied to, and its support team can’t see them. Results aren’t shared with other employers, so a new employer means a new test.

### Can you retake the CCAT?

Criteria doesn’t publish a retake policy for candidates. Retakes are up to the employer.

## What does a 30-day pass cost?

A CCAT 30-day pass will cost $29. It will include unlimited timed practice rounds in the same format as the test, an explanation for every answer and your score history. Passes aren’t on sale yet. Join the waitlist and we’ll email you the day yours opens.
