# PI Cognitive Assessment

The PI Cognitive Assessment from The Predictive Index is a 12-minute, 50-question timed test of verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning. Your score is the number you get right, turned into a scaled score from 100 to 450, where the general population averages 250. Wrong answers don’t count against you, every candidate gets a unique set of questions, and you can have up to three attempts.

## What is on the PI Cognitive Assessment?

PI describes 50 multiple-choice problems in three areas: verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning. Its scoring guide says a test can include at most 16 verbal, 18 numerical and 16 abstract questions. PI says the test needs no job knowledge, formal education or test preparation, and that it isn’t an IQ test. It’s offered in 64 languages.

## What will PI Cognitive practice include?

Practice Round is building timed 50-question, 12-minute rounds that mix verbal, numerical and abstract questions in the same proportions PI describes, written by us, with an explanation for every answer and your count right after each round.

## What will a PI Cognitive practice round look like?

### We’re writing a sample round

A short sample round, with every answer explained, will appear here before practice opens.

## How is the PI Cognitive Assessment scored?

PI counts your correct answers; wrong answers and the number you attempted don’t matter. That raw score is converted to a scaled score between 100 and 450, compared with a general population average of 250. Employers also see verbal, numerical and abstract subscores, but PI says only the scaled score should be used for decisions, and it shows your result next to the target range the employer set for the job.

## How fast do you need to work?

Fifty questions in 12 minutes is under 15 seconds each. Because there’s no penalty for wrong answers, answering quickly and moving on beats getting stuck. PI’s official sample keeps the same pace, so it’s a fair test of how the clock will feel.

## How do you take the PI Cognitive Assessment?

The employer emails you a link. PI recommends a private network and the Chrome or Firefox browser. Each candidate gets a unique set of questions, and if you leave the test window, the screen blurs and copy and paste are blocked. Take it in one sitting somewhere you won’t be interrupted.

## How can you practice for the PI Cognitive Assessment?

Take PI’s official sample first: 20 questions in 4 minutes 48 seconds. It shows which answers you got right, and PI says its questions don’t overlap with the real test’s pool. Then practice full 50-question rounds on a 12-minute clock, mixing verbal, numerical and abstract questions so switching between them stops costing you time.

## Do you see your PI Cognitive score?

PI doesn’t say that candidates receive their score. It recommends that employers keep cognitive scores confidential and share how well a candidate fits the job instead.

## How do you ask for extra time?

Tell the employer before you start. PI says candidates who request and qualify for an accommodation can be given 18 minutes (time and a half) or 24 minutes (double time). PI doesn’t recommend readers or scribes for this test.

## Common questions about the PI Cognitive

### How long is the PI Cognitive Assessment?

12 minutes for 50 questions. PI says candidates who qualify for an accommodation can be given 18 minutes or 24 minutes instead.

### What is a good PI Cognitive score?

PI reports a scaled score from 100 to 450, and the general population averages 250. Each employer sets a target range for the job, so a good score depends on the role.

### Do wrong answers count against you on the PI Cognitive?

No. PI says scores are based only on the number of questions answered correctly, not on wrong answers or how many you attempted.

### Can you retake the PI Cognitive Assessment?

PI allows up to three attempts, and an expired or abandoned attempt counts as one. The employer decides whether to send a retake.

### Is there an official PI Cognitive practice test?

PI publishes official sample questions: 20 questions in 4 minutes 48 seconds, the same pace as the real test. It shows which answers were right but gives no overall score.

## What does a 30-day pass cost?

A PI Cognitive 30-day pass will cost $29. It will include unlimited timed practice rounds in the same format as the test, an explanation for every answer and your score history. Passes aren’t on sale yet. Join the waitlist and we’ll email you the day yours opens.
