Which Amazon assessment will you take?
It depends on the job. Amazon’s assessments page describes work style assessments and work sample simulations for most corporate and salaried roles. Its role guides add details: customer service associates take both in about an hour, software development engineers take an online assessment with coding, and field managers take a 60-minute assessment with a math section. Hourly warehouse applications may include a brief assessment for some job types.

What will Amazon assessment practice include?
Practice Round is building timed practice for the parts of Amazon’s assessments that reward practice: work simulation scenarios written by us, like reading a chart, answering a customer and choosing between response options, on the clock, with an explanation that connects each choice to the published Leadership Principles.

What happens in the Amazon work simulation?
You work through virtual job tasks, such as reading a chart, answering a customer, resolving an issue, juggling several tasks or finding information across sources. Some tasks ask you to make a decision based on the Leadership Principles. Amazon says simulations usually take 20 minutes to an hour. In the engineering version, you see emails, videos and messages from a virtual team and rate or choose among four or five possible responses.
What is in the SDE online assessment?
Amazon says the online assessment for new-grad engineering roles covers coding, technical problem solving and the Leadership Principles. It includes a coding section of about 70 minutes with two problems, a work style section of about 15 minutes, a work simulation and a short survey, and Amazon says to set aside up to two hours. You code in a language you know, such as Java, Python or C++. There’s an unscored two-question practice test first. In 2026 Amazon said it had redesigned its engineering assessments so candidates work with an AI assistant; it doesn’t say which roles use the new format.
What about hourly and warehouse jobs?
Amazon says hourly warehouse jobs need no resume and the online application takes about 20 minutes, within a three-hour limit. Some job types include a brief assessment, which Amazon doesn’t describe. The next step is an in-person pre-hire appointment.
How should you prepare for an Amazon assessment?
Read the Leadership Principles, since the work style questions and many simulation tasks are built around them. Set aside the full time on a computer with a steady connection, because many assessments are timed and missed deadlines can’t be extended. For the simulation, practicing with timed scenarios helps you read quickly and choose under the clock. Amazon says every assessment must be completed by you alone.
How do you ask for an accommodation?
Amazon says it’s committed to making reasonable accommodations for applicants who need them. Ask the recruiter or the contact named in your assessment invitation.
Common questions about the Amazon
What is the Amazon work style assessment?
A questionnaire built around Amazon’s culture and Leadership Principles. You choose how well statements describe the way you work, sometimes picking between two. Amazon says it usually takes 10 to 20 minutes.
Do you need to prepare for the Amazon assessment?
Amazon says advance preparation is only needed for software development engineer roles; for other roles, no advance preparation is required. Reading the Leadership Principles helps you understand what the questions are about.
Can you retake the Amazon assessment?
Amazon doesn’t publish a general retake rule. Its customer service guide says you won’t repeat the assessment if you took it in the last three months.
Can you take the Amazon assessment on your phone?
Amazon says its assessments need a computer and internet, and its engineering guide doesn’t recommend phones or tablets.
