Caliper assessment

The Caliper assessment, now sold by Talogy as Talogy Caliper and long known as the Caliper Profile, is mostly a personality questionnaire with a short set of abstract reasoning problems. It has 98 scored questions and no time limit, and most people finish in about an hour. Only the reasoning problems have right and wrong answers, and Caliper Corporation doesn’t send results to the people who take it.

98 questions · untimed · about 60 to 75 minutes

What is on the Caliper assessment?

Caliper Corporation says the assessment measures 21 behavioral traits and abstract reasoning. Talogy describes three kinds of questions: forced choice, where you pick the statement most like you and the one least like you; agreement ratings on a 1 to 7 scale; and abstract reasoning problems such as number patterns and shape analogies. The questions are written at about a 6th to 8th grade reading level, and some unscored experimental questions are mixed in.

What will Caliper assessment practice include?

Practice Round is building timed practice for the part of the Caliper assessment with right answers: abstract reasoning problems like number patterns and shape analogies, written by us in the same style, with an explanation for every answer. There’s nothing to practice for the personality questions, and Caliper Corporation says to answer them honestly.

How do you take the Caliper assessment?

You get an email link, usually from info@calipercorp.com, register, and work through the pages. You can’t move to the next page until every question on the current one is answered, and you must click Submit at the end or your results aren’t processed. It works on a phone, but Talogy says a computer is more comfortable, with Chrome or Firefox recommended. If you stop partway, you can reopen the same link and pick up after the last section you finished.

How do employers use Caliper assessment results?

Employers compare your profile with a model of the job they’re hiring for. Talogy tells them to treat the results as one of several factors, alongside interviews, experience and references, and suggests giving the assessment once they’ve narrowed to a few top candidates. The reports belong to the employer that asked for the assessment.

Can you retake the Caliper assessment?

Usually you don’t need to. Talogy says recent results can be reused for a different job, and suggests a retake only after five or more years or if the first attempt went badly. Within a year of a previous attempt, the employer has to contact Caliper Corporation to allow a new one.

How can you prepare for the Caliper assessment?

Caliper Corporation doesn’t publish a practice test. The personality questions don’t have right answers, and its advice is to answer them honestly. The abstract reasoning problems do have right answers, so practicing number patterns and shape analogies on a clock is the part you can prepare for. Have a calculator and scratch paper ready, since both are allowed, and find an hour you won’t be interrupted.

Where do you ask about accommodations?

Caliper Corporation says to tell the company giving you the assessment, or to contact its customer relations team. Because the assessment isn’t timed, it says extra time isn’t needed.

Common questions about the Caliper assessment

Is the Caliper assessment timed?

No. Caliper Corporation says the assessment isn’t timed and most people take about an hour; Talogy’s help center says 60 to 75 minutes. You can stop and come back from the same link, though Caliper Corporation suggests one sitting.

Can you fail the Caliper assessment?

Talogy tells employers to present it as a personality assessment, not a pass or fail test. Employers compare your profile to a model of the job and are told to use it alongside interviews, experience and references.

Do you get your Caliper assessment results?

Not from the publisher. Caliper Corporation says it doesn’t send results to the people who take the assessment, and that any feedback comes from the employer.

Can you use a calculator on the Caliper assessment?

Yes. Talogy’s proctoring guide says calculators and scratch paper are permitted.
