What is the Bank of America assessment and video interview?

Bank of America says some roles require an online assessment, sent by email or arranged by a recruiter, and that you can usually retake the same assessment after six months if you don’t pass. For student and early career programs, the on-demand video interview gives you 30 seconds to prepare and up to 3 minutes to answer each question, and takes about 20 to 30 minutes in all.

What are the steps in Bank of America’s hiring process?

Bank of America describes four steps: find a role, apply in its application portal, interview, and receive an offer. The interview stage mixes phone, in-person and video interviews, and you may also complete exercises and assessments that measure aptitudes and values.

What does the assessment cover?

Bank of America doesn’t name its assessments or say what they cover, how long they take, or whether they’re timed. It says different roles use different assessments, so take each one as the email directs even if it looks like one you’ve seen. Take it in a quiet place without distractions.

Can you retake the assessment, and do you see results?

If you don’t pass, you can generally retake the same assessment after six months. Bank of America doesn’t share specific assessment results. If something breaks during the assessment, follow the troubleshooting steps in the email and wait until it’s fixed before you continue.

How does the on-demand video interview work?

For student and early career programs in the U.S. and Canada, the bank says first and second rounds may happen by phone, on-demand video, on campus or in an office. On the video interview, each question gives you 30 seconds to prepare and up to 3 minutes to answer, and the bank says to expect to use at least 1 minute 45 seconds per answer. There are no follow-up questions, and the whole interview takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The questions are mostly behavioral and open-ended. Bank of America’s Asia Pacific page names HireVue as the platform; the U.S. page doesn’t name one.

How does Bank of America suggest you prepare?

Treat the video interview like an in-person one, dress professionally, practice your answers and ask someone you trust for feedback. Choose a spot with no distracting background or echo and a strong Wi-Fi connection. Notes with points to mention are fine, but don’t read a script, and look at the camera rather than the screen.

How long does a decision take?

After an interview with the business, Bank of America says a decision can take two to four weeks.

How do you ask for an accommodation?

For an accommodation on an assessment, Bank of America asks external applicants to call 1.877.760.2076, and says a reply can take up to two business days.

Is Practice Round connected to Bank of America?

No. Practice Round isn’t affiliated with Bank of America or HireVue.

HireVue video interview

A HireVue on-demand interview is a one-way video interview: questions appear on screen and you record your answers alone, when it suits you, before a deadline. The employer sets the rules. HireVue recommends one minute to prepare, three minutes to answer and three attempts per question, and you get a practice question first. Some interviews add short games, and HireVue suggests setting aside about 45 minutes.
